Health Checks: 45 - 49 year olds

Medicare funds health assessments for people aged 45 to 49 years who are at risk of developing chronic diseases with the aim of decreasing the burden of chronic diseases in Australia.

This health check will give us the opportunity to investigate your lifestyle and medical/family history to find out if you are at risk of developing any chronic medical condition.

The health check involves:

  • Detailed medical history and investigation of your health issues

  • Examinations

  • Investigations for cardiovascular disease risk assessment.

  • Screening test:

    • Pap smear now replaced with HPV test every 5 years​

    • Mammogram for women dependent on her individual degree of risk

    • Immunization: 23 -valent pneumococcal ploysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) and influencza vaccination for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

    • Depression screening

  • Advice and information: For example: we can advise you on how to make lifestyle changes to improve your health

  • If you are currently within the age of 45 and 49 you may have a "risk factor". This is anything that increases your chance of developing a disease. If a risk factor is identified, you are entitiled to a bulk billed health check.
